RF JER 17:1 The Record of the Sins of Judah.
The sins of Judah are written with an iron pen, engraved with a diamond point on the tablet of their heart, and upon the horns of their altar!
RF JER 17:2 Your children remember them; with your shrines under the leafy trees, on the tops of the hills!
RF JER 17:3 My Highland fields! I will give your wealth, all your treasures to plunder! with your castles of sin in all your borders.
RF JER 17:4 And you shall break yourselves loose from the estate that I gave you, and enslave yourselves to your enemy, in a land you know not, for an unquenchable fire shall burn you in My wrath.
RF JER 17:5 Thus says the EVER-LIVING:
The Curse and the Blessing.
"Curse the man who trusts on mankind,
And makes flesh his arm, and turns from LORD.
RF JER 17:6 He shall be like one lost in the Arbah,
Who cannot see whence help can come,
Or laid scorched in the Desert,
The salt-land, where none can reside!
RF JER 17:7 "But bless him who trusts on the LORD,
And on the LORD puts all his Trust;
RF JER 17:8 He shall be like a tree by a brook
Which sends its roots out to the stream.
It fears not the heat when it comes,
And its leaves are at every time green;
It fears not in years of distress,
And refrains not from bearing its fruit.
RF JER 17:9 "The heart is more false than all things,
And who among men knows his own?
RF JER 17:10 I, the LORD, search the heart and try thoughts,
And fix for each person his path,
With the fruit that will grow up from it,
RF JER 17:11 As the bird hatches what she laid not,
He who by injustice makes wealth, In the midst of his days he may lose, And at the last be regarded a fool!"
RF JER 17:12 The Doom of Apostasy.
We formerly raised a splendid Throne on high for our Sanctuary!
RF JER 17:13 LORD, the Hope of Israel, all who forsake You will be disgraced, degraded to the earth, they will be cut off, because they forsake the fountain of the Water of Life, the EVER-LIVING!
RF JER 17:14 Jeremiah Laments his Call.
Heal me, EVER-LIVING, and I shall be well. Save me, EVER-LIVING, and I shall be safe, for I pray to You.
RF JER 17:15 Look! they sneer at me, "Where is the message of the EVER-LIVING? Let it come now!"
RF JER 17:16 Yet I was not eager to feed after You; and I was not greedy for You in a human sense, You know the product of my lips came straight from Your presence.
RF JER 17:17 Do not terrify me; You are my trust in the day of distress.
RF JER 17:18 Let my persecutors be disgraced, but I not disgraced. Let them be terrified, but I not in terror. Let a day of distress come on them, and repeat their wounds on themselves.
RF JER 17:19 The Prophet ordered to Preach at the Gate.
The LORD commanded me thus: "Go and station yourself at the People's Gate, where the kings of Judah go out and come in, and at all the gates of Jerusalem,
RF JER 17:20 and say to them, 'Listen to the message of the EVER-LIVING, you kings of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who come to these gates.
RF JER 17:21 Thus says the EVER-LIVING. Take care of your lives, and carry no loads on the Sabbath day, nor bring them to the gates of Jerusalem,
RF JER 17:22 neither bring them out from your homes on the Day of Rest, nor do any work, but hallow the Day of Rest, as I instructed your fathers."
RF JER 17:23 They, however, will not listen, nor incline their ears, but stiffen their neck, and refuse to hear, and refuse to accept advice.
RF JER 17:24 "Yet," the EVER-LIVING said, "if you will listen to Me, and refrain from bringing loads into the City Gates on the Day of Rest, and will sanctify the Sabbath day, and refrain from doing business on it,
RF JER 17:25 then kings and princes, sitting on the Throne of David, shall come to the gates of this city riding in chariots with their horsemen. Then the princes of the men of Judah, and the population of Jerusalem, will reside in this city for ever.
RF JER 17:26 They will also come from the villages of Judah and from the suburbs of Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the slopes, and from the hills, and from the desert; they will come up with sacrifice and offerings, and incense, and advance to the House of the EVER-LIVING with praise.
RF JER 17:27 But if you will not listen to Me, and sanctify the day of Rest, by refraining from carrying loads, and bringing into the Gates of Jerusalem on the Day of Rest, I will set fire to your Gates, and it shall consume the palaces of Jerusalem and be unquenchable!"
