RF MAR 5:1 The Gadarene Demoniac.
Arriving at the other side of the lake, they landed in the district of the Gadarenes.
RF MAR 5:2 And disembarking from the boat, a man possessed by a foul spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs, at once ran to Him from the tombs.
RF MAR 5:3 And none could restrain him, not even by binding;
RF MAR 5:4 for they had often bound him with chains and shackles, and he had torn asunder the chains and smashed the shackles: and no man had the strength to tame him.
RF MAR 5:5 Continually, night and day, he was among the tombs and mountains, shrieking, and bruising himself with stones.
RF MAR 5:6 But seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt to Him;
RF MAR 5:7 and calling with a loud voice, he said, "What is there between me and You, Jesus, Son of the Highest God? I put you on oath before that God that You will not torment me."
RF MAR 5:8 For He had said to Him, "Begone, foul spirit, out of the man!"
RF MAR 5:9 And He asked him, "What is your name?"
"My name is Legion," was his reply; "for we are many."
RF MAR 5:10 And they urgently pleaded that He might not send them out of the district.
RF MAR 5:11 (Now there was feeding on the side Of the hill a great herd of swine.)
RF MAR 5:12 And they pleaded with Him, saying," Send us to the herd of swine, so that we may enter into them."
RF MAR 5:13 Jesus accordingly gave them permission; and departing, the foul spirits entered the swine. Then the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed madly down the precipice into the sea, and were drowned in the deep.
RF MAR 5:14 The feeders consequently took to flight; and having reported it in the town and in the country, the people came out to see what had occurred.
RF MAR 5:15 And approaching Jesus, they found him who had been possessed now seated, clothed, and quite sane, even the one who had the legion; and they were terrified.
RF MAR 5:16 Those who had witnessed it explained what had happened to the demoniac, and also concerning the swine.
RF MAR 5:17 They then began to urge Him to quit their shores.
RF MAR 5:18 And when He was embarking on the vessel, the one who had been possessed begged that he might accompany Him.
RF MAR 5:19 Jesus, however, would not allow it; but told him, "Go back to your home, to your relatives, and tell them what the Lord has done for you, and has pitied you."
RF MAR 5:20 So taking his departure, he began to report in Decapolis what Jesus had done for him; and all were filled with astonishment.
RF MAR 5:21 The Distress of Jairus.
Now when Jesus had again crossed over in the boat to the other side, a great crowd collected to Him; and He was near the lake.
RF MAR 5:22 And one of the chiefs of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came; and seeing Him, fell at His feet,
RF MAR 5:23 and earnestly appealed to Him, saying, "My little daughter is dying; come now, place Your hands upon her, so that she may be saved, and live."
RF MAR 5:24 He accordingly went along with him; and a great crowd accompanied and pressed upon Him.
RF MAR 5:25 A Woman's Faith Rewarded.
A woman also, who had suffered from hemorrhage for twelve years,
RF MAR 5:26 and had been greatly tortured under many physicians—and had spent all she possessed without relief, but was rather getting worse—
RF MAR 5:27 having heard about Jesus, came into the crowd behind Him, and touched His robe;
RF MAR 5:28 for she thought, "If I could but touch His robe, I shall be made well."
RF MAR 5:29 And at once the discharge of blood was stopped; and she felt in herself that she was cured of that disease.
RF MAR 5:30 Jesus immediately perceiving that power had left Him, turning round to the crowd, asked, "Who has touched My garments?"
RF MAR 5:31 "You see the crowd pressing around You," the disciples answered Him; "and do You ask, 'Who touched Me?"
RF MAR 5:32 He looked round, however, to discover who had done it.
RF MAR 5:33 Then the woman, trembling in terror, and conscious of what had happened to her, came and bowed to Him, and told Him the whole truth.
RF MAR 5:34 "Daughter, your faith has saved you," He said to her; "go in peace, and you shall be relieved from your disease."
RF MAR 5:35 Raising Jairus' Daughter.
While He was speaking, some one came to the chief of the synagogue, saying, "Your daughter is dead; why should you further trouble the Teacher?"
RF MAR 5:36 Jesus overhearing the message, however, said to the chief of the synagogue, "Fear not; only believe!"
RF MAR 5:37 And He allowed none to accompany Him but Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
RF MAR 5:38 On arriving at the house of the chief of the synagogue, He saw a confusion and lamenting, and much wailing.
RF MAR 5:39 And entering, He said to them, "Why do you shriek and weep? The child is not dead, but only fainting."
RF MAR 5:40 But they laughed at Him in ridicule. Then dismissing them all, He took the father and mother of the child, with His companions, and entered the chamber where the child was laid;
RF MAR 5:41 and, having taken the hand of the child, He said to her, "Talitha cumi!" which, when translated means, "Girl, I tell you, rise up!"
RF MAR 5:42 And the girl at once stood up, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were greatly amazed, and overcome with gladness.
RF MAR 5:43 He then enjoined them to let no one know it; and ordered them to give her some food.
