RF ACT 14:1 At Iconium.
Arriving then at Iconium, they entered together the Jewish synagogue, and spoke in such a manner, that a considerable number both of Jews and of Greeks believed.
RF ACT 14:2 But the unbelieving Judeans excited and embittered the spirits of the heathen against the brethren.
RF ACT 14:3 However, they stayed there for some time, speaking with freedom for the Lord, Who gave evidence to the message of His gift, by granting signs and wonders to be effected through their hands.
RF ACT 14:4 But the crowd of the town was divided; some holding with the Jews, and others with the apostles.
RF ACT 14:5 But when there came a conspiracy both on the part of the heathen and the Jews with their rulers, to assault and stone them,
RF ACT 14:6 becoming aware of it, they fled to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and that neighborhood:
RF ACT 14:7 In Iconia: the Cripple Cured.
and were evangelizing there.
RF ACT 14:8 Now at Lystra there was sitting a man, powerless in his feet, lame from birth, having never walked.
RF ACT 14:9 This man heard Paul speaking; who, looking fixedly at him, perceiving that he had faith to be cured,
RF ACT 14:10 said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" And he jumped up and walked.
RF ACT 14:11 But when the crowd observed what Paul had done, they raised a shout, saying in the Lycaonian dialect, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!"
RF ACT 14:12 And they called Barnabas Zeus; 1 and Paul Hermes, 2 because he was the principal speaker.
RF ACT 14:13 And the priest of Zeus, whose shrine stood at the entrance of the town, brought garlanded bulls to the gates, intending, with the crowds, to offer a sacrifice.
RF ACT 14:14 When the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard it, however, they tore their cloaks, and rushed out among the crowd,
RF ACT 14:15 shouting and exclaiming, "Men, why do you this? We are only men like yourselves, declaring to you the good news, to turn away from these follies to a Living God, WHO CREATED THE HEAVEN, THE EARTH, AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM;3
RF ACT 14:16 Who, in former generations, allowed all the heathen to follow their own ways.
RF ACT 14:17 Although He left not Himself without evidence, doing good, showering heavenly rain upon you, and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness."
RF ACT 14:18 Even after speaking in this way, however, it was with difficulty that they restrained the people from sacrificing to them,
RF ACT 14:19 Paul Stoned.
But Judeans came there from Antioch and Iconium; and having won over the mob, and stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the town, under the supposition that he was dead.
RF ACT 14:20 But the disciples having surrounded him, he rose up, and returned to the town; and the next day he departed, with Barnabas, to Derbe.
RF ACT 14:21 Conclusion of the First Missionary Journey.
After having evangelized that town, and secured a goodly number of disciples, they returned through Lystra, to Iconium, and Antioch;
RF ACT 14:22 strengthening the spirits of the disciples, encouraging them to stand by the faith, and showing that it is necessary to endure many sufferings in order to enter the Kingdom of God.
RF ACT 14:23 Then having elected for them elders in every assembly, praying with fasting, they entrusted them to the Lord, on Whom they had believed.
RF ACT 14:24 And passing through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia;
RF ACT 14:25 and having delivered the message in Perga, they went down to Attalia;
RF ACT 14:26 from there sailing to Antioch, where they had been dedicated by the blessing of God for the work which they had accomplished.
RF ACT 14:27 Then when they had called together the assembly after their arrival, they reported what God had done with them, and how He had opened a door of faith to the nations.
RF ACT 14:28 And they spent a considerable time with the disciples.
