RF JOB 22:1 The Third Address of Eiphaz.
Eliphaz the Themanite, however, answered, and said;
RF JOB 22:2 Can a man be essential to God
As a man of skill may to his like?
RF JOB 22:3 Does your righteousness profit the Highest?
Does He gain by your course being straight?
RF JOB 22:4 For fear of you, will He debate,
Or with you will He go to a judge?
RF JOB 22:5 Now! Is not your wickedness great,
And your vices without any end?
RF JOB 22:6 For your brother you robbed of his pledge
And have stripped from the naked his rags;
RF JOB 22:7 You quenched not the weary with drink,
From the famishing held back his bread!
RF JOB 22:8 But the powerful—to him gave the land!
And the haughty-faced dwelt upon it!
RF JOB 22:9 You sent starving widows away,
And the arms of the fatherless broke!
RF JOB 22:10 So, therefore, around you are snares,
And terrors unlooked for confound!
RF JOB 22:11 And darkness that you cannot see;
And torrents of water o'erwhelm!
RF JOB 22:12 Is not God in the Heavens on high,
Looking over the heads of the stars?
RF JOB 22:13 But you may ask, "What can God know?
"Or distinguish behind the black gloom?
RF JOB 22:14 "Black clouds are around,—He sees not;—
"For He walks in the sphere of the skies!"
RF JOB 22:15 You keep to the very old path
Which the vilest of mortals have trod;
RF JOB 22:16 Who were snatched off before their full time,
Whose foundations were swept by a flood;
RF JOB 22:17 Who cried to GOD, "Get far away!"
And, "What gain is the Almighty to us?"
RF JOB 22:18 "He fills up their houses with wealth."
(Begone your vile statements from me!)
RF JOB 22:19 No! The righteous look on and are glad,
And the virtuous laugh him to scorn;
RF JOB 22:20 "Our foeman," they cry, "is now wrecked,
And the fire will consume his remains."
RF JOB 22:21 Now make him your friend and have peace;
To you the results will be good.
RF JOB 22:22 Accept, now, the Law from His mouth,
And fasten His words on your heart.
RF JOB 22:23 To the Mighty Constructor return,
Depravity drive from your tent,
RF JOB 22:24 And throw your gold into the dust,
—Yes, your gold from the gravelly brooks,—
RF JOB 22:25 And let the Most High be your wealth,
And the glitter of silver to you!
RF JOB 22:26 For then the Almighty will love,
And your face you can lift up to God!
RF JOB 22:27 He will hear you whenever you pray
And He will accomplish your vows;
RF JOB 22:28 And He will effect your intent,
And the light will shine over your ways!
RF JOB 22:29 Though He humbles;—He can say, "Arise,"
When the eyes are cast down, then He saves,
RF JOB 22:30 Protecting the virtuous home,
Protecting your unsoiled hands!
