RF JOB 38:1 The Address of Jehovah.
Then Jehovah answered to Job out of the whirlwind, and said
RF JOB 38:2 Who is this that obscures reflection
By speeches on what he knows not?
RF JOB 38:3 Like a hero now gird up your loins—
I will ask you, and you answer Me!
RF JOB 38:4 Where were you, when I founded the earth!
Inform! if you knew of My plan!
RF JOB 38:5 Who fixed its extent? Since you know!
Or who on it stretched out the line?
RF JOB 38:6 On what where its timbering laid;
Or who fixed its keystone on high?
RF JOB 38:7 When the stars of the morn sang together
And the sons of God shouted for joy?
RF JOB 38:8 When the sea was shut up within doors,
When it came with a rush from the womb,
RF JOB 38:9 When I gave it the fogs for a cloak,
And in darkness enwrapped it around;
RF JOB 38:10 And over it laid my decree,
And fixed it with bars and with doors,
RF JOB 38:11 And said, "So far you can come—
Nor advance—but there stay your proud waves!"
RF JOB 38:12 All your days have you governed the dawn,
Taught the morning to know her own place?
RF JOB 38:13 To seize on the wings of the earth,
And to drive off the bad from her face,
RF JOB 38:14 1 With her vesture of roseate bloom,
And draped in it as with a robe,
—————
l Note.—Ch. 38, v. 14, should by the sense read after verse 12, and has been displaced by some old transcriber. There are various readings of the 14th verse.—F.F.
RF JOB 38:15 And to take from the wicked their light,1
And the arm they are lifting to wound?
RF JOB 38:16 Have you gone to the springs of the Sea—
Have you traversed the limits of Space—
RF JOB 38:17 Have Death's portals been opened to you—
Have you looked on the Gates of Despair?
RF JOB 38:18 Know you all that is done upon earth?
Explain—if you know of the whole!
RF JOB 38:19 Where is the road to the dwelling of Light,
And where is of Darkness the home?
RF JOB 38:20 Can you guide us as far as their bounds,
Do you know the paths to their house?
RF JOB 38:21 You know!—for then you were born!
And the number of your days is extreme!
RF JOB 38:22 Have you been to the countries of snow
And examined the treasure of hail
RF JOB 38:23 That I hoard for the time of distress,
For the day of encounter and war?
RF JOB 38:24 What path tread the rays of the Light
And how spread the winds over earth?
RF JOB 38:25 Who cut for the typhoon its course
And a road for the lightnings to shine?
RF JOB 38:26 Who pours rain on the land without men,
On the desert where no man resides;
RF JOB 38:27 To satiate the desert and waste
And to cause a green meadow to grow?
RF JOB 38:28 And who is the father of the rain?
And the drops of the dew, who begot?
RF JOB 38:29 From whose belly comes out the ice,
And the frost of the skies who has made;
RF JOB 38:30 When the waters congeal like a stone.
And it captures the face of the deep?
RF JOB 38:31 Did you fasten the Pleiades' chain?
Or scatter the Wandering-fool?2
RF JOB 38:32 Do you guide the Signs of the Seasons?
Or console the North Star and his sons?
RF JOB 38:33 Have you revealed Laws for the Skies,
Or settled the Laws of the Earth?
RF JOB 38:34 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds
And with water-floods cover yourself?
RF JOB 38:35 If you send lightnings out, will they go
And reply, "We are ready for you?"
RF JOB 38:36 Who leads out the meteors with skill,
Or gives to the comets their sight?
RF JOB 38:37 Who skillfully numbers the clouds,
Who pours out the skins of the skies,
RF JOB 38:38 When the dust is converted to mud,
And together the clods of earth stick?
RF JOB 38:39 Do you hunt for the lion his prey;
Or fill the young whelps of wild beasts,
RF JOB 38:40 When they lie cowering down in their dens,
And hide by themselves in their lairs?
RF JOB 38:41 Who prepares for the raven its food
When its young ones are shrieking aloud
And are worn out for want of their meat?
