RF LUK 3:1 The Mission of John the Baptizer.
Now in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar—Pontius Pilate being chief governor of Judea, and Herod governor of Galilee, and his brother Philip governor of the territories of Iturma and Trachonitis, and Lysanias governor of Abilene,
RF LUK 3:2 during the High-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas—the message of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, while in the desert.
RF LUK 3:3 And he went about the whole country of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of conversion for forgiveness of sins;
RF LUK 3:4 as it is recorded in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the prophet:
A VOICE SHOUTING IN THE DESERT,
PREPARE THE HIGHWAY FOR THE LORD,
MAKE His PATHWAYS SMOOTH.
RF LUK 3:5 LET EVERY VALLEY BE FILLED UP,
AND EVERY MOUNTAIN AND HILL CUT DOWN,
AND THE CROOKED PATHS MADE STRAIGHT,
AND THE ROUGH GROUNDS SMOOTH:
RF LUK 3:6 THAT ALL PERSONS MAY SEE THE SALVATION OF GOD.1
RF LUK 3:7 Addressing the crowd which had come out to be baptized by him, he then said, "Spawn of vipers! who has warned you to fly from the coming fury?
RF LUK 3:8 Produce at once, then, fruit befitting conversion; and do not begin to say within yourselves, 'We possess as our forefather, Abraham'; for I tell you that God is able from among these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
RF LUK 3:9 But already the axe lies at the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit will be felled, and thrown into the fire."
RF LUK 3:10 Inquiries of the Crowd.
"What then are we to do?" asked the crowd.
RF LUK 3:11 In reply, he told them, 'Who ever possesses two coats, let him give one to the man who has none; and let him who has food do likewise."
RF LUK 3:12 Tax-farmers also came to be baptized, and they asked him, "What, teacher, must we do?"
RF LUK 3:13 "Never extort more than is legally appointed to you," he replied.
RF LUK 3:14 And the soldiers on the march also asked him, saying, "And we, what shall we do?" He said to them, "Extort from no one money by threats or false accusations; but be content with your pay."

1. Isaiah xl 3-5
RF LUK 3:15 The Real Baptizer.
When the people were hesitating, and all of them debating in themselves about John, whether or not he might be the Messiah,
RF LUK 3:16 John addressed them, everywhere saying: "I certainly baptize you with water; but One stronger than myself will come, One whose shoelace I am not even great enough to untie; He will Himself baptize you with Holy Spirit and fire.
RF LUK 3:17 His winnower is in His hand, to perfectly cleanse His threshing-floor: and He will store up the wheat in His granary; but the chaff He will burn with inextinguishable fire."
RF LUK 3:18 And with many other exhortations he evangelized the people.
RF LUK 3:19 But Herod, the governor, having been reprimanded by him about Herodia, the wife of his brother, and of all the wickedness of which Herod had been guilty,
RF LUK 3:20 heaped this upon the whole, and had John confined in prison.
RF LUK 3:21 The Baptism of Jesus.
It, however, occurred, when all the people were being baptized, Jesus having also been baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
RF LUK 3:22 and the Holy Spirit, in bodily appearance like a dove, descended upon Him, and a voice came out of heaven proclaiming, "You are My Son, My Beloved! in You I have delight!"
RF LUK 3:23 The Genealogy of Jesus.
[[Now Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age on beginning [His work], being (as He was regarded) a son of Joseph, of Heli,
