RF ACT 21:1 Journey to Caesarea.
As soon, however, as we had torn ourselves away from them, we set sail, and came with a straight run to Coos; on the following day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara;
RF ACT 21:2 and finding a vessel bound for Phoenicia, we embarked and departed.
RF ACT 21:3 Then sighting Cyprus, and leaving it on the left, we sailed to Syria, and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to discharge her cargo.
RF ACT 21:4 But finding some disciples there, we stayed with them seven days. Some of them advised Paul through the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.
RF ACT 21:5 But when we had completed those days, we departed and proceeded on our journey; all of them, with women and children, accompanying us until outside the town. And bending our knees upon the sand, we prayed,
RF ACT 21:6 and wished each other good-bye, and embarked in the vessel; but they returned to their homes.
RF ACT 21:7 But we, completing the voyage from Tyre, arrived at Ptolemais; and greeting the brethren, we remained with them for one day.
RF ACT 21:8 On the following morning we took our departure, and came to Caesarea; and entering the house of Philip the evangelist, who was of the seven, we stayed with him.
RF ACT 21:9 Now this man had four maiden daughters, who preached.
RF ACT 21:10 And as we remained several days, there came down from Judea a preacher of the name of Agabus.
RF ACT 21:11 And coming to us, he took Paul's belt, fastened his own feet and hands, and said: "Thus says the Holy Spirit, 'In like manner shall the Judeans at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and shall deliver him over to heathen hands.'"
RF ACT 21:12 Then when we heard this, both we and the residents of that place pleaded with him not to go up to Jerusalem.
RF ACT 21:13 Paul, however, replied, "What do you mean by weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be arrested, but also to die at Jerusalem, for the sake of the name of the Lord Jesus!"
RF ACT 21:14 Then when he would not be persuaded, we were silent, saying, "The will of the Lord be done!"
RF ACT 21:15 Paul at Jerusalem.
After these days, having put our baggage in order, we ascended to Jerusalem;
RF ACT 21:16 and some of the disciples from Caesarea also accompanied us, by whom we were introduced to Mnason of Cyprus, a disciple from the first.
RF ACT 21:17 When we arrived at Jerusalem, the brethren welcomed us with gladness.
RF ACT 21:18 And on the following morning, Paul accompanied us to James, where all the elders assembled.
RF ACT 21:19 After greeting them, he gave them a detailed account of what God, through his own ministry, had done among the heathen.
RF ACT 21:20 When they heard it, they thanked God, and remarked to him: "You see, brother, how many tens of thousands of believers there are among the Judeans; and they are all enthusiastic for the law.
RF ACT 21:21 They have been sedulously informed respecting you, however, that you instruct all the Jews who are among the heathen to apostatize from Moses; advising them not to circumcise their children, nor pay any attention to the customs.
RF ACT 21:22 What is it, then? The crowd will certainly assemble; for they will learn that you have arrived.
RF ACT 21:23 "Suppose you do what we advise you: there are four men with us who have taken a vow on themselves;
RF ACT 21:24 joining, be purified with them, and share the expenses with them, when they shave their heads. Then all will know that there is no truth in the reports concerning you; but that, on the contrary, you yourself keep the directions of the law.
RF ACT 21:25 But as for the believing heathen, we have published our decision, that they should keep themselves free from idol-offerings, from blood, from strangulation, and from fornication."
RF ACT 21:26 Then Paul, taking those men on the following day, having purified himself with them, entered into the temple, to give notice when they would complete the days of their purification; upon which would be offered the sacrifice for each one of them.
RF ACT 21:27 Paul Arrested.
When the seven days were nearly completed, some of the Asiatic Judeans, observing him in the temple, incited the whole of the rabble, and they threw their hands upon him,
RF ACT 21:28 shouting out, "Men! Israelites! help! This is the man who everywhere teaches against the people, and the law, and this place! and he has actually brought Greeks into the temple, and has polluted this holy spot."
RF ACT 21:29 (Because they had previously seen in his company in the city Trophimus the Ephesian, whom they concluded Paul had brought into the temple.)
RF ACT 21:30 The whole city was agitated, and a mob of people collected; and seizing Paul, they dragged him outside the temple, and immediately they shut the gates.
RF ACT 21:31 Then trying to murder him, information was sent up to the commandant of the garrison that the whole of Jerusalem was in a state of riot.
RF ACT 21:32 He immediately ordered out soldiers and captains, charging down upon them; and when they saw the General and the troops, they desisted maltreating Paul.
RF ACT 21:33 The Commandant, then approaching, picked him up, and ordered him to be secured with two chains; inquiring as to who he was, and what he had done.
RF ACT 21:34 Some among the crowd yelled out one thing, some another; and failing to ascertain the cause of the uproar, he ordered him to be conveyed to the fortress.
RF ACT 21:35 But when he reached the stairs, it was necessary for him to be protected by the soldiers, owing to the violence of the mob;
RF ACT 21:36 because the mass of the people followed yelling out, "Kill him!"
RF ACT 21:37 Then as they were about to enter the fortress, Paul asked the Commandant, "May I be allowed to say something to you?"
"Can you speak Greek?" he asked in reply.
RF ACT 21:38 "You are not then the Egyptian, who some time ago revolted, and led those four thousand assassins out into the desert?"
RF ACT 21:39 Paul replied, "I am indeed a Judean, a man of Tarsus of Cilicia; a citizen of no inglorious city; and I beg of you to grant me permission to address the people."
RF ACT 21:40 Having accordingly given him permission, Paul taking his stand upon the stairs, waved his hand to the people; when a great silence ensuing, he addressed them as follows in the Hebrew dialect;
