RF ACT 6:1 The Election of Deacons.
But about this time, when the number of the disciples kept increasing, a complaint came from the Hellenists (or Grecian Jews) against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the distribution of relief.
RF ACT 6:2 The twelve then convened the body of the disciples, and said, "It is not desirable that we should have to neglect the Divine teaching, in order to attend to mere money matters;
RF ACT 6:3 therefore, brothers, choose from among yourselves seven men of attested character, full of spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint to look after this business.
RF ACT 6:4 But we will ourselves constantly attend to prayer, and to the office of teaching."
RF ACT 6:5 And the suggestion pleased the whole assembly: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of holy spirit; Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a convert from Antioch,
RF ACT 6:6 whom they presented to the apostles; and having prayed, they laid their hands upon them.
RF ACT 6:7 And the message of God extended; and in Jerusalem the number of disciples greatly increased; besides which, very many of the priests were subdued to the faith.
RF ACT 6:8 Arrest of Stephen.
Stephen, especially, full of active benevolence, produced great and wonderful evidences for the people.
RF ACT 6:9 Some of those, however, belonging to the synagogue known as that of the Libertinites, as well as of the Cyrenians, Alexandrians, together with some from Cilicia and Asia Minor, debated with Stephen.
RF ACT 6:10 But they were not able to withstand the intelligence and the spirit with which he spoke.
RF ACT 6:11 They accordingly bribed men to say, "We have heard him utter slanderous statements against both Moses and God."
RF ACT 6:12 And they incited the people, the elders, and the professors. And, coming upon him, they arrested him and brought him before the senate;
RF ACT 6:13 and produced false witnesses asserting, "This man never ceases making statements against this Sacred Place and the Law;
RF ACT 6:14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus the Nazarene will demolish this Place, and change the constitution which has been transmitted to us from Moses."
RF ACT 6:15 Then all who were seated in the senate, looking intently upon him, saw that his face had the appearance of the face of an angel.
