RF RUT 4:1 Boaz Publicly States He Will Redeem Ruth's Estate.
Boaz, however, went up to the Gate and sat there. And saw the nearer relative, of whom Boaz had spoken, pass, and exclaimed, "Come here! Sit down here,—you, sir!" So he turned and sat down.
RF RUT 4:2 Then he summoned Ten of the Elders of the village, and said, "Sit here!" And they sat down.
RF RUT 4:3 When he said to the redemptor;—"There is that part of our Estate, what belonged to Elimelekh, that Naomi, who has resided in the plain of Moab wishes to sell,
RF RUT 4:4 so I have spoken openly to your ears to advise you to buy it, in the presence of these men, and before the elders of my people. If you wish to redeem it,—redeem it. But if you will not redeem it, inform me; for there is no one to redeem it except yourself,—and I am after you." And he replied, "I will redeem it!"
RF RUT 4:5 But Boaz answered;—"On the day that you purchase the estate from the hand of Naomi, you must buy it also from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead man, to raise up a name for the dead on the property!"
RF RUT 4:6 Then the next of kin said;—"I am not able to purchase it by myself, lest I should injure my own property. You can purchase my right for yourself;—for I am unable to claim it."
RF RUT 4:7 Now this was the custom in Israel about purchases and about transfers, to confirm any event,—a man took off his shoe and gave it to his friend; and that was an attestation in Israel.
RF RUT 4:8 So when the next of kin said to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself," he slipped off his shoe,
RF RUT 4:9 and Boaz said to the Elders, and to all the people, "You are witnesses to-day that I have bought all that belonged to Elimelekh, and the whole that belonged to Khilion and Mahlon, from the hand of Naomi?
RF RUT 4:10 And also Ruth, the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, I have bought for myself as a wife to raise up a name for the dead upon his estate, so that the name of the dead may not be cut off from the gate of his Home:—As you witness to-day!"
RF RUT 4:11 When all the people at the Gate and the Elders replied, "We are witnesses!—The EVER-LIVING grant that the wife who comes to your house may be like Rachel and Leah, which two built up the house of Israel, and make wealth in Ephrathah, and a celebrated name, in Bethlehem.
RF RUT 4:12 And may your house be like the house of Pharez, whom Thamar bore to Judah. So may the heir be whom the LORD may give you from this young woman."
RF RUT 4:13 Then Boaz took Ruth the Moabitess, and she became his wife, and he went to her, and the EVER-LIVING gave her conception, and she bore a son.
RF RUT 4:14 Then the women said to Naomi, "Thank the EVER-LIVING who has not left you to-day without a relative! So let his name be celebrated in Israel!
RF RUT 4:15 For he has been to you a restorer of life, and a supporter of your old age, on account of your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons."
RF RUT 4:16 Naomi also took the lad and laid him on her lap, and was a nurse to him,
RF RUT 4:17 and her woman friends collected to her and said, "There is a son born for Naomi," and chose Obed1 for his name. He was the ancestor of Jesse, the father of David.
RF RUT 4:18 And this was the pedigree from Pharez;—Pharez begat Hezron;
RF RUT 4:19 and Hezron begat Ram; and Ram begat Amminadab;
RF RUT 4:20 and Amminadab begat Nahshon; and Nahshon begat Salmon;
RF RUT 4:21 and Salmon begat Boaz; and Boaz begat Obed;
RF RUT 4:22 and Obed begat Jesse; and Jesse begat David.
