   Work on the 'The Holy Bible in Modern English' began in 1853 by a London businessman named Ferrar Fenton (1832–1920). The complete Bible was first published in 1903, though some individual bible 'books' were published as separate volumes during the preceding 11 years.
   Fenton is well known for a rearranging of the books of the Bible into what the author believed was the correct chronological order. In the Old Testament, this order follows that of the Hebrew Bible. The name of God was translated throughout the Old Testament as "The Ever-Living".
   Fenton is an exciting translation that shows respect and gives clarity in many areas where other translations fall short. This Bible is described as being "translated into English direct from the original Hebrew, Chaldee, and Greek languages."

    Henrik Borgström assisted Fenton with his translation of the Book of Job, which first appeared in 1898. The book of Job was "rendered into the same metre as the original Hebrew, word by word and line by line". His translation of the New Testament is based on the Greek text of Westcott and Hort. The ordering novelty in the New Testament is that it places the Gospel of John and the First Epistle of John at the beginning before the Gospel of Matthew, thus placing the Acts of the Apostles immediately after the Gospel of Luke.

   Notable as well, is Ferrar Fenton's restoration of the Psalms into the musical verse form as close to the original as he could get. The Psalms were, quite literally, songs, complete with instructions for the "choirmaster" as well as descriptions of the proper musical instruments to be used. Today Psalm 48, Psalm 137, and Psalm 23 are still sung in churches, albeit to tunes not the original.

   This bible is named the "Revised Fenton" because it puts things back into chronological order. In many cases, whether in error or not, Ferrar moved some parts of the scriptures down to the footnote section. These re-ordered verses have been returned to their chronological order as they are currently found in the King James Version. There was no alteration of the wording or intended meaning of what was originally intended by Mr. Fenton."

Blog entry: September 17, 2016

   Welcome to the new blog section. Join us in this exciting effort to display the works of Ferrar Fenton! The Holy Bible in Modern English is now fully digitized and can be seen for it's creative and artistic beauty as well as for the spiritual edification that we all need through the daily study of the scriptures.

   This project actually began in 2012 when the conversion of scanned images, using OCR software, revived a very beautiful but tangled digital version of Ferrar Fenton's work. The major part of the editing, including verse alignment, OCR errors and chapter breaks took over one year. Still, as we go there are minor fixes to punctuation and a few odd necessary edits.

   In its very raw form, 'The Holy Bible in Modern English' went online with a free but very undependable web hosting service in 2014, where it has been ever since.
   With thanks to the generosity of others, just recently, the site has been moved to its current home. This hosting service is by far superior to the previous but costs are high so we are maintaining an ad service to help offset the costs.

RF CH1 16:1

Thus they brought the Ark of the EVER-LIVING and deposited it in the centre of the Hall which David had constructed for it, and presented Burnt and Thank-offerings before God.

RF CH1 16:2 When David had ceased from offering the Burnt and Thank-offerings, he blessed the People in the name of the EVER-LIVING.
RF CH1 16:3 Then he distributed to every Israelite person, both men and women, a loaf of bread, and a plum cake,
RF CH1 16:4 He afterwards appointed some of the Levites to serve before the Ark of the EVER-LIVING, and to care for it and to give praise and to honour the EVER-LIVING GOD of Israel.
RF CH1 16:5 Asaph was their Chief and his Secondaries were Zekeriah, Jazal, and Shemiramoth, and Ikhial, and Matathiah, Aliab, and Beniah, and Abd-adom, and Jayal, with instruments, Lutes, and Harps; and Asaph with resounding cymbals.
RF CH1 16:6 Then Beniah and Jakhzial the Priests stood with trumpets before the Ark of the Covenant of GOD.
RF CH1 16:7 On that day also David first ordained to give thanks to the LORD by the means of Asaph and his associates.
RF CH1 16:8 Psalm by David.
Sing to the LORD, call on His name,
Proclaim His works among the Nations!
RF CH1 16:9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him,
Reflect on all His wonders
RF CH1 16:10 In His Holy Name rejoice;
Glad-hearted seek the LORD;
RF CH1 16:11 Be strong, and follow the LORD.
Seek always for His presence,
RF CH1 16:12 Remember the wonders done,
His proofs and the laws He made,
RF CH1 16:13 You race of Israel His servant,
You sons of Jacob His chosen.
RF CH1 16:14 STANZA 2.
His Laws are for all the Earth;
RF CH1 16:15 He always remembers His Treaty;—

RF CH1 16:16 Which He for our fathers wrote,
And which He to Isaac swore,
RF CH1 16:17 And fixed the Decree to Jacob,
A lasting Bond with Israel;
RF CH1 16:18 To say, "I give you the Land,
To possess the borders of Canan ";
RF CH1 16:19 When you were few in number,—
But few and strangers there,
RF CH1 16:20 When you wandered from Tribe to Tribe,
In the kingdom of foreign peoples,
RF CH1 16:21 He allowed them not to oppress,
But punished kings for your sakes;—
RF CH1 16:22 " Dare not to touch My anointed,
And do My Preachers no harm!"
RF CH1 16:23 STANZA 3.
Sing to the LORD all the Land,
And daily proclaim His Trust!
RF CH1 16:24 To the Nation proclaim His glory,
His wonders to all the Peoples!
RF CH1 16:25 For the LORD is Great and Grand,
And His Splendour beyond all GODs!

In His dwelling are Power and Joy!
RF CH1 16:28 STANZA 4.
Proclaim the LORD, you clans of the People
Proclaim the LORD is Majestic and strong;
RF CH1 16:29 Proclaim that the LORD is Majestic
Exalt His Name with an offering,
And come, and bow down before Him,
To the LORD in this Holy Splendour!
RF CH1 16:30 STANZA 5.
All the earth revolves before Him,
Who fixed its unerring sphere!
RF CH1 16:31 Let the Skies proclaim to the Earth,—
Tell the Heathen, "The LORD is King!"
RF CH1 16:32 Let the Sea roar, and all its products,
The Fields rejoice, and all therein,

Before the LORD who advances,
To establish Justice on Earth!
RF CH1 16:34 STANZA 6.

And exalt ourselves by Your praises!
"Thank Israel's LIVING GOD,
From Ever, and on to for Ever! "
(Instructions to the Choir.) (All the People must reply.)
"Amen! And thanks to the LORD!"
RF CH1 16:37 In this manner he left Asaph and his companions to sing before the Ark of the Covenant of the EVER-LIVING, to sing always from day today,
RF CH1 16:38 with Abd-adom and sixty-eight of his associates. But Abd-adom-ben-Jeduthun and Hosah were the Doorkeepers.
RF CH1 16:39 Zadok and his relatives were Priests before the Tabernacle of the EVER-LIVING at the Mound in Gibaon,
RF CH1 16:40 to offer Burnt-offerings to the EVER-LIVING on the High Altar at Daybreak and Dusk, and for all written in the Laws of the LORD which He communicated to Israel.
RF CH1 16:41 And Heyman and Jeduthun were with them, beside selected persons who were nominated to praise the EVER-LIVING, for His eternal mercy.
RF CH1 16:42 While Heyman and Jeduthun accompanied with trumpets and resounding gongs, and musical instruments to GOD, with the sons of Jeduthun as attendants.
RF CH1 16:43 Then all the Parliament of the People returned each to his own home, when David proceeded to bless his own House.
