RF PSA 41:1 To his Bandmaster.
A Psalm by David.
Bless the man who consoles the depressed!
The LORD will relieve him in grief.
RF PSA 41:2 LORD! keep his life happy on earth,
And give not to the wish of his foes.
RF PSA 41:3 LORD! support him when sick on his bed;
And in illness make pleasant his couch.
RF PSA 41:4 Psalm 41 A.
STANZA 1.
I entreat, LORD, have pity on me;
Heal my soul though I sinned against You.
RF PSA 41:5 My foe says,—"It goes hard with him;
He will die and his memory fade."
RF PSA 41:6 And if on a visit he comes,
Deception he speaks from his heart;
His malice he feeds in himself,
Goes out, and then spreads it abroad.
RF PSA 41:7 All my enemies whisper together;
All who hate me combine for my hurt.
RF PSA 41:8 They say, "He is loaded with crimes,—
When he falls he will not rise again!"
RF PSA 41:9 STANZA 2
Yet that man was my most trusted friend;
He has kicked me who ate of my bread;
RF PSA 41:10 So have pity, O Lord, upon me,
And raise, that I may repay him;—
RF PSA 41:11 By which I shall know, that You love,
When o'er me my foes cannot shout.
RF PSA 41:12 And You hold me up in my right,
And fix me for ever near You.
RF PSA 41:13 Psalm 41 B.
A Chorus of Doxology.

Let Israel bless the LIVING GOD for ever,
And ever, and for aye! Amen and still Amen.

1 Note.—The 41st Psalms of the ordinary notation is clearly three distinct anthems, of entirely distinct character, confused by some ancient transcriber. I consequently separate them.—F.F.
