   Work on the 'The Holy Bible in Modern English' began in 1853 by a London businessman named Ferrar Fenton (1832–1920). The complete Bible was first published in 1903, though some individual bible 'books' were published as separate volumes during the preceding 11 years.
   Fenton is well known for a rearranging of the books of the Bible into what the author believed was the correct chronological order. In the Old Testament, this order follows that of the Hebrew Bible. The name of God was translated throughout the Old Testament as "The Ever-Living".
   Fenton is an exciting translation that shows respect and gives clarity in many areas where other translations fall short. This Bible is described as being "translated into English direct from the original Hebrew, Chaldee, and Greek languages."

   Welcome to the new blog section. Join us in this exciting effort to display the works of Ferrar Fenton! The Holy Bible in Modern English is now fully digitized and can be seen for it's creative and artistic beauty as well as for the spiritual edification that we all need through the daily study of the scriptures.


   This project actually began in 2012 when the conversion of scanned images, using OCR software, revived a very beautiful but tangled digital version of Ferrar Fenton's work. The major part of the editing, including verse alignment, OCR errors and chapter breaks took over one year. Still, as we go there are minor fixes to punctuation and a few odd necessary edits.

   In its very raw form, 'The Holy Bible in Modern English' went online with a free but very undependable web hosting service in 2014, where it has been ever since.
   With thanks to the generosity of others, just recently, the site has been moved to its current home. This hosting service is by far superior to the previous but costs are high so we are maintaining an ad service to help offset the costs.

Comment upon the Address of Wisdom.
"My son, if accepting my words,
If you store my command with yourself,
   
RF PRO 2:2 If your ears will lay hold of Wisdom,
And your heart will incline to reflect,
   
RF PRO 2:3 If, then, you will call to Perception,
And to Thoughtfulness lift up your voice,—
   
RF PRO 2:4 If you seek her, as men do for silver.
And dig as for wealth from a mine,
   
RF PRO 2:5 You will then find the fear of the LORD
And discover the knowledge of GOD!—
   
RF PRO 2:6 For the LORD is the giver of Wisdom,
From His mouth come Knowledge and Thought;—
   
RF PRO 2:7 Salvation He stores for the upright;
And shields those who walk in the truth;
   
RF PRO 2:8 Keeps guard on the path of the Just,
And safe marks the way of His Saints!
   
RF PRO 2:9 "So examine the Right and the Just,
And the Wise, and then all will go well,
   
RF PRO 2:10 Then Wisdom will enter your heart,
And Knowledge be sweet to your soul.
   
RF PRO 2:11 Discretion will watch over you,
Reflection herself will attend,
   
RF PRO 2:12 Will preserve from the way of Distress,
From the persons who speak to pervert;
   
RF PRO 2:13 Who wander from Rectitude's paths,
To walk in the ways that are dark,
   
RF PRO 2:14 Who delight in the practice of wrong,
And rejoice in perversion to vice;
   
RF PRO 2:15 Whose courses are all of them crooked,
And deception in all that they do!
   
RF PRO 2:16 And will guard you from women depraved,—
From the stranger with flattering words,
   
RF PRO 2:17 Who abandons the love of her youth,
And forgets every law of her GOD;
   
RF PRO 2:18 Who allures to the Death in her House!
The exhausted are strewn in her paths!—
   
RF PRO 2:19 All who enter it,—never return!
Nor revisit the pathways of life!
   
RF PRO 2:20 "But you,—walk in the path of the good,
And keep to the straightforward ways,
   
RF PRO 2:21 For the virtuous continue on earth,
And upon it the upright remain,
   
RF PRO 2:22 While the bad are destroyed from the ground,
And from it wrongdoers are pulled.
