Work on the 'The Holy Bible in Modern English' began in 1853 by a London businessman named Ferrar Fenton (1832–1920). The complete Bible was first published in 1903, though some individual bible 'books' were published as separate volumes during the preceding 11 years.
Fenton is well known for a rearranging of the books of the Bible into what the author believed was the correct chronological order. In the Old Testament, this order follows that of the Hebrew Bible. The name of God was translated throughout the Old Testament as "The Ever-Living".
Fenton is an exciting translation that shows respect and gives clarity in many areas where other translations fall short. This Bible is described as being "translated into English direct from the original Hebrew, Chaldee, and Greek languages."

Welcome to the new blog section. Join us in this exciting effort to display the works of Ferrar Fenton! The Holy Bible in Modern English is now fully digitized and can be seen for it's creative and artistic beauty as well as for the spiritual edification that we all need through the daily study of the scriptures.

This project actually began in 2012 when the conversion of scanned images, using OCR software, revived a very beautiful but tangled digital version of Ferrar Fenton's work. The major part of the editing, including verse alignment, OCR errors and chapter breaks took over one year. Still, as we go there are minor fixes to punctuation and a few odd necessary edits.

In its very raw form, 'The Holy Bible in Modern English' went online with a free but very undependable web hosting service in 2014, where it has been ever since.
With thanks to the generosity of others, just recently, the site has been moved to its current home. This hosting service is by far superior to the previous but costs are high so we are maintaining an ad service to help offset the costs.

ARA JOH 20:1

But on the first day of the week, in the very early morning while it was dark, Maryam Magdalitha came to the tomb and she saw the stone that had been removed from the tomb.

ARA JOH 20:2 And she ran and came to Shimeon Kaypha and to that other disciple whom Yeshua had loved, and she said to them, "They have taken away Our Lord from the tomb, and I don't know where they have laid him."

ARA JOH 20:3 Shimeon went out and that other disciple, and they came to the tomb.

ARA JOH 20:4 And they were both running together, but that disciple ran in front of Shimeon and he came first to the tomb.

ARA JOH 20:5 And he looked, gazing at the linens where they were lying, but he did not enter.

ARA JOH 20:6 Then Shimeon came after him and entered the tomb, gazing at the linens where they were lying,

ARA JOH 20:7 And a grave cloth, which had been bound about his head, not with the linens, but as it was wrapped and set on the side in one place.

ARA JOH 20:8 Then that other disciple entered, who came first to the tomb, and he stared and he believed.

ARA JOH 20:9 But they had not yet known from the scriptures that he was going to rise from the dead.

ARA JOH 20:10 And those disciples departed again to their place.

ARA JOH 20:11 But Maryam was standing at the tomb and was weeping, and while weeping she looked inside the tomb.

ARA JOH 20:12 And she saw two Angels in white sitting, one at his pillow, and one at the foot, where the body of Yeshua had been laid.

ARA JOH 20:13 And they were saying to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I don't know where they have laid him."

ARA JOH 20:14 She said this and turned around, and saw Yeshua standing, and she did not know that he was Yeshua.

ARA JOH 20:15 Yeshua said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping, and whom are you seeking?" But she thought he was the Gardener, and she said to him, "Sir, if you have taken him, tell me where you have laid him; I will go take him away."

ARA JOH 20:16 Yeshua said to her, "Maryam." And she turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbuli", which is to say "Teacher."

ARA JOH 20:17 Yeshua said to her. "Don't cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to join my Father, and go join my brothers and say to them that I ascend to join my Father and your Father, my God, and your God."

ARA JOH 20:18 And Maryam Magdalitha came and announced to the disciples, "I have seen Our Lord", and that he had said these things to her.

ARA JOH 20:19 But when it was evening of the first day of the week and the doors were barred where the disciples were staying, because of fear for the Judeans, Yeshua came and stood in their midst and he said to them, "Peace be with you."

ARA JOH 20:20 He said this and he showed them his hands and his side and the disciples rejoiced because they saw Our Lord.

ARA JOH 20:21 But Yeshua said to them again, "Peace be with you. Just as my Father has sent me, I also am sending you."

ARA JOH 20:22 When he had said these things, he breathed upon them and he said to them, "Receive The Spirit of Holiness."

ARA JOH 20:23 "If you will forgive a man's sins, they will be forgiven him, and if you hold a man's, they will be held."

ARA JOH 20:24 But Thoma, one of the twelve, who is called The Twin, he was not there when Yeshua had come.

ARA JOH 20:25 And the disciples were saying to him, "We have seen Our Lord", but he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the places of the nails and I shall put my fingers in them, and reach my hand into his side, I will not believe."

ARA JOH 20:26 And after eight days, again the disciples were inside and Thoma was with them and Yeshua came when the doors were barred; he stood in the center and he said to them, "Peace be with you."

ARA JOH 20:27 And he said to Thoma, "Put your finger here and behold my hands and put your hand and reach into my side and do not be an unbeliever, but a believer."

ARA JOH 20:28 And Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord, and my God."

ARA JOH 20:29 Yeshua said to him, "Now that you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen me and have believed."

ARA JOH 20:30 But Yeshua did many other signs before his disciples, which are not written in this scripture.

ARA JOH 20:31 But these things are also written that you may believe that Yeshua is The Messiah, the Son of God, and when you believe, you shall have eternal life in his name.
